About Three Sisters Nursery
In 1990, Terry and Sue Powers started Three Sisters Nursery. Contrary to most peoples initial thoughts, Three Sisters has nothing to do with the mountains of the same name here in Oregon. The nursery was actually named for Terry and Sue's three daughters, Missy, Tracey and Amy. We are located just east of Portland, OR at the base of Mount Hood in Sandy, OR. The nursery consists of roughly 10 acres of land specializing in many varieties of Japanese Maples and Dogwoods, as well as a selection of other ornamental trees. Our trees are raised outdoors which causes them to be extra hardy!
Three Sisters Nursery is a small family owned wholesale and retail nursery. We take great pride in knowing our customers, their needs, and providing them with a quality, reasonably priced product. We are open to the public by appointment only (please feel free to contact us to set up an appointment). We can also be found at many home and garden fairs, farmers markets and art shows throughout Multnomah, Clackamas and Clark Counties.
In 2002, we added another twist to our business. Terry began using his welding talents to make unique metal garden art. His pieces range from yard ornaments, to large arbors, to whimsical pieces composed of recycled scrap metal. The family takes great pleasure in seeing what Terry will do next with recycled metal and how he will bring it to life. For example we all thought Terry was crazy when he asked us to find him broken metal toasters. Now they are transformed into pigs with curly tails. Old burnt out light bulbs magically transform into lightening bugs with antennae and wings. Terry's creations have become so popular he was awarded the People's Choice award in 2006 and 2007 at the CrackedPots Garden Art from Recycled Materials show at McMenamin's Edgefield in Troutdale, OR. We are all eager to see what he will come up with for this years show, at this point he is keeping it top secret.
Most recently, Terry and Sue have also discovered ways to incorporate fused glass into Terry's metal sculpture. The glass has been made extra thick from being fused in a kiln and will withstand the crazy Northwest weather. The mix of glass and metal is creating a look that is truly unique!
